  • These Feelings...

It's a mix of excitement and a bit of fear mostly. It's cool to do something different, but I could end up paying the ultimate price. I think about the "what if's," but then I just say, "screw that!" and lace up my boots. There is no turning back anyway. Plus, being with my friend(s) that I trust helps. I think about God and if it will be my time to go. I also think about what happened to him and the anger I feel is overwhelming. I have to be vigilant. These are the feelings before a mission. For me anyway.

  • Retirement

I retired my boots today. They were the first pair that were given to me in the Army. I'm surprised they lasted this long. They were so broken-in, they felt like sneakers. Hundreds of miles of marching and walking, rain and mud, Basic Training, AIT, Texas, NTC, more Texas, Kuwait, and about seven weeks here in Iraq. That sure did it. It's about time I put them up, but I think I'll keep them as a memento.
